MC Lyte was Honored by the Glitz & GirlPower Awards for Women’s History Month

Hip Hop pioneer, author, and actress MC Lyte was honored this past week as part of a 3-event award series hosted by the Glitz &

Girlpower Awards in Miami, FL. Introduced to the audience by her friend, financial adviser, and fellow honoree Dr. Lynn Richardson often times referred to as “The Minister Teacher of Gangster Preaching”, MC Lyte gracefully took the stage to accept her awards in a stunning sequined one-piece jumper.

After briefly thanking the organization for giving her this award, MC Lyte went on to state “When people refer to me as a legend, I often times think, ‘what have I done that has been so legendary?’ I names myself Lyte in 1986 but I don’t really believe I cam lyte just a few years ago when I had the opportunity to become a part of an organization that gives the opportunity to young people too further their education.

Right now we have 5 young men at Dillard University and 4 women, of whom all have graduates. These 5 young men look to us every day to inspire and to encourage them. And we are able to do so with the help of all of you.”

This evening was hosted by Love and Hip Hop Miami’s cast member Joe Young and media personality Sandy Coffee.
